Young’s screamer sends Liddy Cup back to Kilmore Celtic as Usher train halted

Kilmore Celtic and Usher Celtic played out a cracking Liddy Cup final at The Bowl in Clonshaugh this morning.

Usher would have been favourites going in but the first chance fell to Kilmore when Sean Young played the ball perfectly into Daryl Curley’s path but a last ditch tackle from Stephen Doyle saved the day for Usher.

In the 11th minute Stephen Donnelly broke down right but Wayne Walker sent his low delivery just wide.Midway through the half a training-ground free-kick almost gave Usher the lead when Paul Keane sent Graham Curran’s square-ball inches wide.

Kilmore took the lead in the 36th minute when after Curley and Glenn Carragher had combined well down left, Carragher curled an unstoppable effort to the far top corner.

Five later though they were level when Barry Browne finished a decent move by blasting home the leveller and they went in tied at one.

On 55 Jordan Buckley picked a pocket in the box but couldn’t direct his effort to the net, while at the other end Curley went oh so close to restoring the lead for Kilmore.

With 18 left Young’s lob from way out left beat Murphy but bounced over the bar agonisingly.

With 10 remaining Mark Lynch got ahead on Young’s cross, the ball struck the crossbar and fell to the same man and his strike hit the underside of the crossbar.

Ninety seconds later though Kilmore were back in front when Young collected the ball out left and fired a screamer with his left peg to the near top corner.

Kilmore had to dig in for the remaining 10 minutes or so.

They did so and Jay O’Reilly was dominant at the back.

Conor Browne was magnificent for the winners but Sean Young’s winner saw him just about shade the MOTM award.

Two great clubs though run by great people, a great game of football on a sunny Sunday morning, you can’t beat it can you?
