Wicklow League to hold EGM as league considers allowing club officials become eligible for executive positions

WICKLOW LEAGUE

AGM REPORT

The Wicklow League are to hold an EGM next month in which clubs will
be asked to examine the possibility of club officials retaining their
status while also being eligible to serve on the League’s Executive
Committee.

By PAUL DOWLING

The EGM – set for Wednesday August 14 – will also see a new Wicklow
League Constitution voted upon.

It will include a number of rule changes – as well as those submitted
by Ashford Rovers which were not discussed or voted upon at last
Wednesday’s AGM – which was held at the Parkview Hotel in Newtown.

Currently, rules do not allow a club member serve in an Executive role
within the Wicklow League.

Wicklow League chairman Michael Conlon

At the at times fracas meeting, Wicklow League chairman Michael Conlon
made an impassioned plea to clubs to help the Executive which
currently has just four people serving at the top table.

“Unless we get more people involved, and coming on board with the
committee, we can’t function going forward” he told the floor.

“The Executive will always remain impartial. That does not stop people
getting involved.”

With 15 of the 22 members present at the AGM, the motion to elect
people for clubs onto the Executive to be discussed at the EGM was
passed.

It will now be discussed at length at next month’s EGM which is seen
as a vital gathering for the future of football in the Garden County.

Technically, all matches in the Andy McEvoy Premier Division, Pat
O’Toole Division 1, Division 3 and the John Tobin Youth Shield were
not finished out to full completion during the 2018/19 season.

No runners-up in Division 1 was officially finalised. No winner or
runner-up in the Youth Shield was confirmed.

The official list of participants for next seasons Charlie Bishop
remains unresolved with places technically up for grabs with teams
still capable of qualifying if their remaining fixtures are played

To facilitate the EGM, the current Executive Committee of Michael
Conlon (chairman), John Shea (Secretary), Eoin Devlin
(Treasurer/Registrar) and Liam Kilbride (Fixtures Secretary) were
elected on-bloc until the EGM when a new Executive Committee will be
voted upon by clubs.
