WICKLOW LEAGUE COMMENCE 19/20 SEASON WITH TWO DIVISION FORMAT

THE Wicklow League have announced new formations.
Instead of three Divisions, Garden County Football will have just two sections for the 2019/20 season.

The full statement is as follows:

Wicklow League statement

Dear Club officials, players and managers

The League Executive originally had a set up of 3 divisions – Premier 1 (8 teams), Division 2 (8 teams) & Division 3 ( 12 teams)

However after Dearg Celtic folding & Rathnew AFC withdrawing both teams and another team in Division 1 advising they may not be able to field a team we were left with 7 in Premier 1 & 6 possibly 5 in Division 2. This was a unacceptable position to start the League with.

As a result the League Executive have reformatted the Leagues to two divisions. Three teams from Division 1 ( Arklow Town, Arklow Celtic & Wicklow Rovers) going up to Premier 1 & remaining clubs in Division 2 joining with Division 3 teams to make a 15 team leave.

This combined league would play a full round of 14 games (7 home & 7 away) before splitting into eight strong Division 2 & seven strong Division 3.

We apologise for these changes which are a result of circumstances out of our control but changes had to be made or face a uncompetitive league and/or further team losses.

The League Executive would like to thank all the clubs for their assistance and co-operation on these changes

Michael Conlon
Chairperson, Wicklow & District Football League.
