COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES…… 5
DEFENCE FORCES………………………. 0

THE annual Irish Pensions Trust trophy fixture resulted in another clear cut victory for the Colleges and Universities who outclassed an under strength Defence Forces for the second successive year scoring five goals without reply at Athlone Town Stadium.
The lively students got off to a bright start with two goals in the first 20 minutes.
Aaron Dobbs tucked home the opener on 15 minutes from a Kieran McDaid cross and that came after several close calls for the Forces who had goalkeeper Ken Deegan to thank for fine saves from a Mikey Scott header and Cillian Duffy’s close range effort.
The impressive Duffy continued to be a threat and he doubled the total five minutes later with a well placed header from Jack Tuite’s right wing cross.
The Colleges and Universities were now firmly in control and McDaid crashed in a third goal when he met a Conor Kane cross at the far post.
A Jody Dillon header from Shane Dempsey’s free was the closest the below strength Forces came to reducing the lead before the break.
Students manager Greg Yelverton was in the happy position to be able to empty his bench in the second half and his side continued their dominance when substitutes Simon Falvey struck home a free and Alan Murphy’s first time volley from a Ronan Young cross made it 5-0 with 20 minutes remaining.
