Reid ‘loving it’ as Ireland Under-18 Head Coach

Republic of Ireland Under-18 Head Coach Andy Reid has spoken about his first six months in the job describing himself as ‘absolutely loving it’.

Speaking to FAI TV, Reid discussed the influence fellow Ireland bosses Mick McCarthy and Stephen Kenny have had on him, how he’s passing on his own experience to his Under-18 players and the new identity emerging from the Irish underage set-up.

The former Ireland international, who won 29 senior caps, was appointed into the job in March and has already faced the likes of Austria, Norway, Sweden, and Turkey.

Describing his first few months as the Head Coach, Reid said: “Everyone has been great with me. There’s a great group of underage managers and assistants, right up to Stephen Kenny and Mick McCarthy who have been absolutely fantastic with me. Any time you have any problems at all you can pick up the phone and when we have our managers’ meetings you’re able to have open discussions.

“I’m learning all the time, in relative terms I’m new to the coaching game so I’m having to improve, having to learn and having to analyse my own strengths and weaknesses and see where I can improve. I feel if I can improve as a coach that gives me a better opportunity to help the players.”
