PIKE FORCED TO DIG DEEP TO SALVAGE POINT OFF MUNGRET

Pike Rovers had to come from behind to salvage a point away to battling 10-man Mungret this morning.

Mungret opened the scoring in the second but Ian Fletcher headed home a Shane Walsh cross late on to secure a 1-1 draw.

Conor Kavanagh saw his first-half penalty saved and Mungret finished the game with ten men after a second-half red card.

The draw moves Pike one point clear of Fairview Rangers at the top of the Premier League table.

Pike, who also hit the woodwork, will ultimately be glad of the draw but they were expected to take all three points and put more daylight between themselves and the chasing pack.

Elsewhere in the Premier Division this morning, Geraldines moved into joint second spot with Fairview Rangers after a 6-3 win over Prospect Priory.

Kevin Barry led the way with a brilliant hat-trick and Danny O’Neill, Shane Byrne and Ross Mitchell were also on target for the high-flying Dines.

Regional United climbed to fourth in the table after a 4-2 victory over Nenagh. Shane Dillon notched a brace and Andy Quaid was also on target for United who benefited from an OG.

Meanwhile, Aisling Annacotty beat Geraldines 3-1 in the Touhy Cup in mid-week. Two-goal Conor Coughlan and Paudie Walsh did the business for Aisling.
