O’NEILLS LEINSTER JUNIOR CUP SEMI-FINALS

FIVE STAR KILBARRACK TO TAKE ON WEXFORD’S NORTH END IN O’NEILLS LFA JUNIOR CUP FINAL

WEXFORD’S North End United overcame Carlow’s New Oak Boys with a hard-earned 2-1 extra time win at Hollygrove to set up a O’Neills Leinster Junior Cup provincial showdown with Leinster Senior League Kilbarrack United.

Kilbarrack overcame Kilkenny’s Evergreen on a 5-2 scoreline on Saturday at Greendale Road  to book their place in the final which is booked for the Carlisle Grounds in Bray on May 29.

Andrew Wall had fired Evergreen in front in the 9th minute but Kayln Sweeney levelled in the 29th minute before Jack Kelly edged United in front in the 34th minute.

Sean Cummiskey then slid one in from close to goal in the 39th minute as Kilbarrack took a firm control on the game.

Two minutes after the restart Kilbarrack were awarded a penalty and Cumiskey kept his nerve to net the home side’s fourth goal and Jack Kelly’s 75th minute strike after rounding the keeper sent the bumper home support into joyous celebrations.

David Grincell’s 87th minute header off an Evergreen corner was simply a consolation strike as the Kilkennymen bowed out.

Down in the sunny south-east on Sunday New Oak took the lead off a Dean Kelly freekick early on to stun the home support but Adam Beary levelled for North End before the break.

Both sides had chances in the second half to get their noses in front but the game eventually went to extratime. It looked as if the tie would be settled from the penalty spot but Defence Forces international Shane Dempsey had other ideas for the John Godkin managed side as he finished off Paulie Murphy’s delicious delivery to the back post to set off the celebrations among the Wexford team’s supporters.

It was a killer blow to New Oak who had contributed much to a cracking cup encounter and there was frustration among the visiting Carlowmen about the length of added time.
