OLIVER Bond Celtic’s Jimmy McHugh has been drafted into Saturday’s UEFA Regions Test Match at the AUL Complex and is added to the Region 1 squad.
Also coming into the Region 1 squad, which will be managed by Crumlin United boss Martin Loughran, is James Lee of Crumlin and Karl Melling of Malahide United.
The winners of the Test game will go forward to represent the Football Association of Ireland in the upcoming UEFA Regions Cup campaign with the draw scheduled for Nyon in December.
The FAI have a strong history of success on the intenational front with a gold and two silver medals in recent years.
McHugh’s elevation to the fringes in international football has been meteoric but the Oliver Bond striker has been a key figure in the club’s recent successes – with the reformed club winning back-to-back trebles over both of the last two season’s in successful AUL campaigns.
This season OBC, ith Eddie Keogh and Evan Kane at the helm, have moved to the Leinster Senior league and McHugh has continued his prolific goalscoring feat and last Friday he netted five times in front of an obviously impressed FAI international manager Gerry Davis.
To date the OBC frontman has found the net 25 times in just eight outings this season and that rich vein of form has been recognised with the call up to the UFA Test match which has a 2pm kick-off at the AUL Complex on Saturday. Oliver Bond are riding high in their league campaign and have also made progress across a number of domestic, provincial and national cup competitions.
James Lee, a former UEFA Regions Cup winner, has made the jump from standby as has Malahide defender Melling – both players catching the eye in club colours this season. Sheriff YC brothers Paul and Stephen Murphy have withdrawn from the original squad while Avondale’s Jack Walsh done his cruciate in action down on Leeside last weekend.
