Carbury continued their pursuit of Cartron Utd in the Sligo Southern Hotel Super League closing the gap to two points on Saturday night in MacSharry Park when Ryan McManus scored a hat-trick as Carbury recorded back-to-back wins in the league, this time beating Manorhamilton Rangers by five goals to nil.
Jason Lyons came close to opening the scoring twice in the opening stages, in what was an end-to-end opening period played at a frantic pace.

Carbury took the lead on twenty minutes. Tyler Stallard’s ball in behind came to McManus who lobbed the Manor goalkeeper, and watched on in agony as the ball hit one post before hitting the other, with the goal awarded then. The Leitrim side were furious as they felt the ball hadn’t crossed the line, but referee Owen McLoughlin was adamant it stood.
Carbury’s tails were up, and it was two up on 29 minutes as Ryan Mc Manus seen his powerful drive from distance beat the Manor goalkeeper.
Manor were putting on the pressure, but could not beat the Carbury rear-guard despite their best efforts. Just before the hour mark, it was three nil. Gary Armstrong picked the ball up in midfield, picked out McManus who cut inside and put the ball through the keeper’s legs.
Carbury still had to be alert as Manor were threatening when they went forward, and a vital goal-line clearance from substitute Neal McKenna kept Carbury’s clean sheet intact.
On sixty-six minutes, Carbury added a fourth. McManus was certainly enjoying himself, and he set up the fourth after getting on the end of Niall Brennan’s through ball before laying it off with a glorious back heel, with Mark McGoldrick tucking the ball into the back of the net.
Double reflex save from Mark Rooney late on denied Manor from a close range after a free-kick. All three points were sealed two minutes from full time when Armstrong picked the ball up from Stallard deep in the Carbury half, before a surging run saw him through on goal, and with just the keeper to beat he slotted it home at an angle to make it five goals to nil.
Next weekend Carbury are away Ballisodare United on Friday evening in what promises to be a great game.
MCR emerged winners in this local derby game at Sean Fallon Park Cranmore, where they defeated visitors Merville United by three goals to one. This was a tight encounter with fast free flowing football Jordan Harte firing MCR into the lead five minutes before half time. MCR took the lead from the penalty spot twelve minutes into the second half when Keith Nibbs dispatched goal number two Merville rallied and were rewarded ten minutes later with Andre Mills on the mark for the visitors and both sides continued to play attacking football. Five minutes from time and MCR were awarded their second penalty and the Ice Man Keith Nibbs made no mistake from the spot to wrap up all the points for MCR who are now third on the leader board.
Aughanagh Celtic continue their fine recent form this time winning away to Real Tubber with the only goal of the game coming from the lethal boot of Marcus Guckian on sixty minutes. This result continues to move Aughanagh Celtic well away from the danger zone.
Coolaney United sit proudly of top of the Andrew Mullen Sligo Pallets Premier League after a splendid victory by the odd goal in three away to a very strong Chaffpool United. The Pool on their day is a formidable side and Coolaney knew they had to bring their top game to the table if they were to be successful. The visitors with a goal each from Mateusz Racki and Declan Mc Cormack were two goals to the good at the break. The Pool replied on sixty minutes with an excellent strike from Criostoir Davey and it was game on. The Pool went in search of that elusive equaliser but Coolaney had the nuance and seen the game out to sit top of the leader board.
Kilglass Enniscrone United made the journey to Dromahair a rewarding one hitting four goals, a double strike from Ronan Martin and a goal each for Sean Quinn and Robert Jacob wrapping up all three points. Shane Fowley scored the only goal for Dromahair who perhaps would have scored a few more had it not been for the outstanding performance of the Kilglass Enniscrone United net minder Liam Donegan.
The Connacht Cup 4th Round seen a few shocks no greater than Ballisodare United removing Cartron United by the odd goal in five at Ballisodare astro. Gary Anderson opened the account for Ballisodare on four minutes Cartron replied on twenty minutes courtesy of Nathan Hargadon and Conor Davey restored order ten minutes from half time with a second goal for the home side. Ballisodare continued to dominate and Conor Davey scored his second, and Ballisodare United third goal goal a half hour from time. Carton continued to press and were rewarded fourteen minutes from full time when Donal Gallagher netted but it was not be as the Boys from Ballisodare stood solid to capture a place in the next round of the Connacht Cup.
The only other Sligo Leitrim club to win in the Connacht Cup 4th Round was Strand Celtic away to Craughwell United. Two goals here for Cormac Murphy and the winner from Dylan Martin.
St Johns FC were well beaten by five goals to nil away to Maree/Oranmore A while Arow Harps went down by the odd goal in three at home to Claremorris. Danny Brodrick and Captain Simon Butler netting for the visitors with Ben Touhy scoring a late goal for Arrow Harps.
In the Connacht Shield Calry Bohs lost away to Ballinrobe Town and Ballygawley Celtic lost away to Shiven Rovers.
