LFA Youths defend Friendship Cup in Germany

By EAMON SCOTT

THE Leinster FA Youths will take on their Hessen FA counterparts in the Sport Hotel in Grunberg later this afternoon.

Managed by Joey Malone, the LFA Select will defend the Friendship Cup in this evening’s match which is at the local football association’s superb training facility an hour south of Frankfurt.

The squad trained at the AUL Complex yeterday morning in advance of their flight to Germany with LFA President Gerry Gorman leading the provincial association delegation who were all kitted out by O’Neills Sports for the trip.

The squad will have a second game on Thursday when they take on a Hessen FA Development squad. Malone is excited about the potential within the group and believes several of his charges have the ability to go on to play at a much higher level

. “They’re a good group and eager to do well. There are many really talented players but we know we will be up against elite players, especially in the Friendship Cup fixture, but we are all looking forward to the challenge and we are confident in our own ability”

Malone is assisted by Dave Mackey and Liam O’Brien making for a strong coaching line-up for the provincial body.
