Reports: By PADRAIG HARTNETT
While we lost our third Saturday of fixtures there were still a number of games played in mid-week in various Leagues while on Sunday there was action in the u12 and u14 Boys and u13 and u15 Girls Inter Leagues and Gaynor qualifiers.
Kerry 14’s top the table and into Munster decider:
The Kerry 14’s have completed their Group stage of the inaugural Munster u14’s Inter League. It was a good campaign for the Kerry boys winning 3 and drawing 1 game to sit on top of the table on 10 points. Their latest win came with a 3-0 victory over South Tipperary at Mounthawk Park.
Kerry got off to the best start with Josh Bowler scoring after 3 minutes. Fionn O’Neill and Mohamed Abdala added two more before the break. Kerry had chance to add to their tally and had a penalty miss as South Tipperary concentrated on keeping the scoring down.
Kerry now await the result of the Cork v South Tipp game which will decide if it’s the Cup or Shield Miunster final for the Kerry 14’s.
12’s back in the hunt for a top two place:
The Kerry 12’s were 3-0 winners West Cork in the Subway Inter League in a game that was switched from Lyre to Celtic Park. And Szymon Jasinski again showed his goal scoring class hitting a hat trick to secure three valuable points for Kerry. They are at home to Limerick District next Sunday.
The two sides also played in a Development game which ended 1-1. Michael Quirke put Kerry ahead but the West Cork side replied in the second half.
Joint leaders go down in 12’s Division 1
Fenit remain joint top of the JK Sports 12 Division 1 where they sit on 13 points for 6 games the same number of points as Inter Kenmare but with a game in hand.
However Fenit missed the chance to go top on their own when they went down 4-0 at home to Castleisland who are up to 5th. Jack Ryan had a game to remember getting all 4 goals for Castleisland.
Gaynor Girls go down to South Tipperary:
The Kerry 13’s and 15’s continued their Gaynor qualifiers with a trip to South Tipperary who are one of the top girls Leagues in the province. Katie Foster scored for the Kerry 13’s who went down 4-1 in the end. Kerry had a couple of chance, especially in the first half, but it was the home side that took the win.
The South Tipperary 15’shave been together for the last 4 years and were a little too strong for Kerry on the day. They led 3-0 at the break and added 3 more but there were positives for the Kerry girls who will have learned a lot from this game,
The 13’s and 15’s have 3 more games to decided who which teams go into the Gaynor Cup section and the Gaynor Trophy section at the Tournament in UL in the summer.
Leaders win again in the 14 Premier
St Brendan’s Park lead the way in the Slattery’s Carpets 14’s Premier but were pushed all the way by Castleisland in their latest game. The game was tied at 1-1 at the break in Christy Leahy Park with Finn O’Neill scoring for the Park and Jack O’Donoghue getting the Castleisland goal.
In the second half O’Neill scored a second and Momhamed Abdalla added a third to give the Park all three points.
Celtic make it 8 form 8 in the 15’s Premier
Killarney Celtic made it 8 wins from 8 games in the Daly’s Suopervalu 15 Premier as they defeated Inter Kenmare 7-1. Luke O’Neill and Josh Bowler both scored two each with Eoghan Crowley, Javier Abad and Adrian Casey getting the other goals.
Strong second half see Ballyhar into 16’s Cup round 2:
In a game played on Sunday Ballyhar Dynamos made the better of the conditions in the second half of this Tucker Kelly Cup clash against MEK Galaxy in Murt Scott Park.
The sides were tied 0-0 at the break but 4 goals from James Horgan, 2 from Stephen Palmer and one from Noel McMahon sees Ballyhar Dynamos into the hat for round 2.
LB Rovers up to third in 16 Division 1 North
LB Rovers won 4-0 away to Fenit to move up to third in the Tralee Trophy World 16 Division 1 North. Kieran O’Connell hit a hat trick with Darragh Fitzpatrick also on the mark.
Celtic open gap in 13 Girls Division 1
Killarney Celtic Green are now 6 points clear of Castleisland in the u13’s Girls Division 1 but they do have a game more played. On the mark in their win over Castleisland were Jessica Leggate and Emma Daly who both scored twice with Kate Ford and Megan Sheehan also on the mark.
Munster win for Kenmare Girls:
The League is delighted to congratulate Pobalscoil Inbhear Sceine who were crowned Munster Schools u15’s champions this week. They defeated Scoil Mhuire Askeaton 2-1 thanks to goals from Saoirse Buckley and Grace Foley. A number of girls who play with our Girls teams were in action with the Pobalscoil. They will play the Connacht winners in March.
Boys Roll of Honour: Josh Ryan Castleisland 12’s, Szymon Jasinski Killarney Athletic 12’s, Paddy Hannafin Fenit 16’s, Finn O’Neill Park 14’s, Timmy Moynihan Killarney Celtic 15’s and Kieran O’Connell LB Rovers 16’s.
Girls: There was very little girls action but Megan Sheehan Killarney Celtic 13’s was the stand out player in the one game that was played.
