MONTPELIER REACH THE SUMMIT IN MAJOR SUNDAY LSL DIVISION

MCP: a fantastic season capped with the LSL Major Sunday title and intermediate football next season

Intermediate football beckons for rising force in LSL

Montpelier 2-0 St. Paul's Artane

The reason I was down in Grangegorman last evening was to help Montpelier FC celebrate a league win.  They were champions of the Major Sunday division in the LSL with a couple of games to spare and have now achieved intermediate status.

The game itself was an exciting fair with the opposition-St. Paul's Artane also harboring promotion ambitions, but they needed a win on the evening in question.

There wasn't a whole lot between the sides and both 'keepers Kayleum Rice for Montpelier and Darren Farrelly for Paul's, came up with flying saves as the shots rained in on goals.

ST PAUL’S ARTANE: still an outside chance of promotion to intermediate football

Midway through the first half Montpelier went in front when Sean Keenan hurtled up left and Ciaran Horan raced in to turn his low cross to the net.

Dane McCabe and Evan Burke went oh so close for Artane but the champs were one up at the break.
On 58 the hosts doubled the advantage, Tom Quinn powering a Hayden Murphy corner from the left to the net with his head.

Paul's fought all the way and Nathan Donohue was denied by a flying Rice towards the end.  Evan Burke also went close on a few occasions but it was Montpelier's night as they were presented with the league title by Mick Byrne of the Leinster Senior League executive for a superb season.

There was even a cameo from club legend Davy Scully.  Sean Keenan and Darren Farrelly were strong MOTM contenders and Alan Lindsay tells me Paul's may still be in with a squeak of promotion.
