The Inaugural Mick Gaff Memorial Cup final was held at the CIE Ranch Inchicore grounds this afternoon.  Reason being that Mr. Gaff was founder of Ranch and a legend in the area.

By Dermot Clarke

Mountview were going for their second cup in as many weeks but a decent Glenville side stood in the way.  Glenville had slightly the better of the early exchanges and, after Eamon Lynch had fired a rocket at Stephen Hegarty in the 7th minute, they went ahead just before the quarter hour mark.

Owen Kelly went down under a challenge on the left hand side of the box and a penalty was awarded which Alan Crowe rolled home.

Mountview though were level six minutes later when Jonny King hared into the box to meet a David Farrell cross from the right.  The ball looked to have gone in off the post but Jon Ronan made sure.

Mountview finished the half the stronger and Martin Mullarney went close as did King before the break but they went in tied at one.

Just after the hour mark Glenville went in front and it was worth the price of admission.  Donal ‘Gucci’ Gilmar with an unstoppable free-kick that flew to the top corner from all of thirty yards.

Eight later it was all over effectively when a clearance from a Lynch cross fell into Paul O’Brien’s path and he took a touch before firing low to the net from the edge of the box.

With 10 remaining skipper Gareth Kavanagh launched a ball from the back and Crowe won a race with Hegarty and he looped it over the keeper’s head and into the net to make it 4-1.

Ken Cullen scored right on the 90 mark to reduce the deficit but Glenville were worthy winners of the inaugural Gaff Cup and David Keogh was named as man-of-the-match.
