FIVE STAR FAIRVIEW HAVE TOO MUCH CLASS FOR CAREW IN FAI JUNIOR CUP

By BERNARD O’NEILL

Fairview Rangers advanced in the area stage of the FAI Junior Cup after a 5-1 win over Carew Park this morning.

Dermot Fitzgerald led the way for the eight-time FAI champions with a brace, while the View’s fellow Limerick Premier side Prospect beat Patrickswell 4-1.

Two ex Limerick FC men were on target for three-time FAI finalists Ballynanty Rovers versus Charleville in a 4-2 win for Balla. Conor Ellis and Sean Kelly netted for the Northside club, with Ellis notching yet another hat-trick this season.

Meanwhile, Pike Rovers continued their free-scoring ways in the Munster Junior Cup (MJC) this morning.

Four-goal Jonathan Grant, Conor Kavanagh (2), Eoin Hanrahan (2), Shane Walsh and Ian Fletcher did the business for the Hoops in a 10-0 win over Athlunkard B.

Geraldines also progressed in the MJC on a day of very little surprises or shocks for Premier sides in both national and provincial cup competition.

Kevin Barry buried a hat-trick for the Dines and Bobby Tier slotted home a penalty. Shane Byrne completed the scoring in a 5-1 win over Kilfrush.

Elsewhere this morning, Kilmallock came from behind to beat Coonagh 6-3 and record their first Premier win of the season after nine starts.

Killian Hayes and Tommy Heffernan scored two goals each and Ben Curtain and Barry Sheedy were also on the mark.
