FAI INTERMEDIATE CUP BUILD-UP

TALKING POINTS

Case for the Defence

In six games, against some of their biggest rivals in Munster, Avondale have conceded just once with Midleton the only side to net against them. This title charge has been built on a solid foundation of clean sheets and Crumlin are going to find it difficult to crack this back line. Three of Dale’s games ended in one nil wins, proving again just how important their defence has been.

Best form of Defence – Attack

In total contrast, Crumlin are packed with lethal attackers. In their five games so far, against some of the best amateur teams around, the Blues have managed to net fourteen times. In Alan McGreal and Craig Walsh they have players that can exploit the wide open expanses of the Aviva pitch while Jake Donnelly deserves the biggest stage in the country to show off his hypnotizing skillset.

Experience

Dale have plenty of intermediate cup experience in their set up, but one thing that they lack that Crumlin have is Aviva Stadium experience. From the size of the pitch to the plush and spacious dressing rooms to wonderful surrounds of the mass of green seats to bus journey into the ground, everything about the day is overwhelming for players. Harnessing all that energy and ensuring it makes it to the pitch will be key. Crumlin know the score and should have a handle on their surroundings while Avondale will need to keep the emotions in check. Crumlin know how to work the space of the pitch, they will use width and pace to hurt Avondale.
