FAI FUTSAL CUP SEMI-FINAL

FAI FUTSAL CUP HOLDERS BLUE MAGIC HIT EIGHT TO END REAL TRANSYLVANIA HOPES

BLUE MAGIC FUTSAL…….8 REAL TRANSYLVANIA…….3

A DOMINANT Blue Magic FC booked their place in the FAI Futsal Cup final with a comfortable success over Real Transylvania at the National Indoor Arena on Sunday afternoon.

The cup holders hit the front after just 20 seconds when skipper Ian Byrne finished to the net after great work by Kaique Dos Santos down the right flank in this all AUL semi-final.

The basis of the success was  ground out in the first half with  a six goal return to Real Transylvania’s sole strike.

That early Byrne strike upset the dynamic of the match in that you expected Real Transylvania to sit and try and stymie Blue Magic’s fluid passing game. But Blue Magic pushed high up the court and forced Transyvania to defend deep with Murile Da Silva in goal forced into several saves.

After a bout of sustained pressure the holders doubled their lead with 14.25 on the clock. Victor Calderon weaved some magic out on the left side of the pitch with his quick feet and picked out Kaique dos Santos who found the bottom corner of the net with a couple of defenders arriving too late to stop the shot.

Real Transylvania pulled one back with an excellent counter attack and although Guilherme Viana Cardosa  got his hands to block an initial shot, Andrei Boros was well positioned to finish to the net ((10.42).

Right on 10 minutes the powerful Gabriel Yan thundered a  stunning strike from distance that flew to the net past a bemused Da Silva for 3-1.

There was a hint of controversy with Blue Magic’s fourth with match official Robbie Byrne having no hesitation in awarding a goal after Matheus Lemes’ shot hit both posts with Byrne insisting all of the ball had crossed the line.

Recent signing and birthday boy Alex Almeida Cunha then put the match to bed with a rapid fire brace (3.07) and (2.35) showing excellent skill and unerring accuracy in finding the back of the Real Transylvania net.

With a five goal deficit to make up, Real Transylvania’s second half tactics was to play with a ‘fly’ keeper – rotating on attack and defence.

It was relatively effective but Blue Magic were happy to sit in an protect their lead, holding shape and getting players behind the ball. With 9.18 on the second period left Blue Magic defender Gabriel  Saldahna profited from Real’s ‘absent’ keeper and having clipped the upright a couple of minutes earlier from distance, this time Gabby struck Blue Magic’s seventh with a chip the length of the pitch.

The final goal from Blue Magic was scored by Kaique Dos Santos  (5.34) who chased a ball down the right touchline and as Real Transylvania moved in to close him down, Dos Santos squeezed a shot away and from an acute angle found the back of the net.

The game was well put to bed by this stage – and a little bit of sloppiness with some spirited Real Transylvania commitment  saw them net a penalty with 3.31 on the clock as Cristian Stancuta finished past Felipe Furtado and then the same player with 1.47 showed admirable finished hitting a ball early before Furtado could set himself up for a save.
