It’s all to play for on Monday morning as the Ireland Cerebral Palsy squad go into the IFCPF World Cup Quarter-Finals with the task of taking on World No 1 Ukraine. Dillon Sheridan is no stranger to these high-pressure games considering his experience with the Ireland team and he sees no reason to be fearful. Sure, the star midfielder respects Ukraine and acknowledges their strengths, but he feels that the Irish team should focus on what they can do when the teams meet in Salou, Spain at 8:30 on Monday. Ireland finished second in Group B following wins over Germany and Thailand, plus a loss to Brazil. Now, they have an opportunity to reach the final four – if they can be brave and take their chances. “The tournament has been really good for us so far with two brilliant and convincing wins against Germany and Thailand. Unfortunately we fell short against Brazil but we still have a Quarter-Final to look forward to, so have to remain positive,” said Sheridan. “Ukraine will be a really tough game for us but the coaching staff have got the tactics spot on in all three group games, so once we step onto the pitch it’s up to us to be brave and execute the plan. It’s definitely where we want to be playing the best team in the world. “Ever since I’ve been in the Ireland squad we’ve always had some quality attacking players and always create chances if we defend well. If take our chances anything can happen in a knock-out game.” Ireland CP Squad Goalkeeper: Mark Barry Defenders: Joe Markey, Carl McKee, Alan Moore, Darragh Ruane Midfielders: Dillon Sheridan, Ryan Nolan, Gary Messett, Cormac Birt, Ryan McCormack Attackers: Aaron Tier, Charlie Byrne, Adam Free, Josh Treacy Fixtures / Results Monday, May 2: Ireland 2-0 Germany Wednesday, May 4: Ireland 6-0 Thailand Friday, May 6: Brazil 3-0 Ireland Monday, May 9: Ukraine v Ireland, KO 8:30 |
