Following a hectic fortnight of cup ties all of the Colleges FAI knockout competitions have now been reduced to the last eight stage.
By John Hudson
The Colleges FAI are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year and they plan to hold a Festival of Football over two days early next month in Athlone Town Stadium where the finals of all five competitions will be played on Tuesday March 1 and Wednesday March 2.
In the build-up to the celebratory two-day event the draw for the quarter finals was held over the weekend and one surprise omission from the latter stages of the top trophy, the Perpetual Cup, is the current holders IT Carlow, eight times winners in the past 12 years.
Carlow were handed a shock 1-0 defeat in the opening round at home to Dundalk IT a side from the division below them.
All the ties are set to be played on Tuesday and Wednesday February 15 and 16 with the semi finals scheduled to take place in week commencing February 21.
