Grange Woodbine….. 6 East Meath United…. 1

By Ger Brady.

Grange Woodbine strolled into the final of the NDSL Under 11 E/F cup on Saturday morning with this comprehensive victory over East Meath United in Woodbine Park.

Lucas Clohessy was the goal scoring hero for the hosts as his hat trick led the way as Woodbine scored some wonderful goals against their lower league opponents.

Amazingly however it was United who started the better and within the opening 7 minutes they had hit the frame of the Grange goal twice.

Jack Behan made good in-roads down the right for United before cutting in the striking the post.Five minutes later Juwon Adeoje for EMU smashed the crossbar from a close range free kick.

Woodbine were threatening down the other end through Clohessy and Eoghan O’Reilly but it was Oran Crawford’s wonderful effort from 20 yards that gave the home side the lead on 14 minutes when his shot nestled in the top corner.

A minute later the superb Clohessy got his first of the day as his free kick from distance was unsaveable as it swerved into the top left corner of the United net.

Before the break Woodbine Clohessy had a shot go inches wide as it nearly became three nil and on the stroke of half time East Meath almost got one back but Harry Dernham fired over.

Sixty seconds into the second half Woodbine made it 3-0 when the lively Lucas finished superbly again.

And the hosts were now dominant. Adam Keating and Luke Kenny in control at the back, Crawford in midfield while Clohessy was leading the line up front but all home players were superb. On 36 minutes Woodbine made it 4-0 with a superb team which involved Jake Ralph, Crawford and Clohessy before Crawford finished on the volley at the back post.

A minute later it was 5-0 when Lucas Clohessy set up to Eoghan O’Reilly who finished low past Luke Gibbons in the United goal. And the hosts dominance continued as Crawford and O’Reilly set up Clohessy who completed his hat trick for Woodbine’s 6th.

In the final minute East Meath deservedly got a goal back when Daire McCarthy pounced on Yayha Ghani’s corner to finish from close range to make the final score 6-1.
