Under 15 League Division 1 2021/22

Hanover Harps AFC   2,  St Anne’s AFC  2
Saturday 26 March 2022  The Plots (Hanover Harps)

Hanover and St Anne’s played out a 2-2 draw in The Plots on Saturday afternoon which was enough to clinch the league title for the Ballylinan team. Hanover knew only a win would keep them in the hunt and had a couple of half chances early on. St Anne’s had the lion’s share of possession without really threatening the goal. No quarter was asked or given in very warm conditions on a difficult surface and the teams were glad of the half-time break with the game scoreless.

St Anne’s took the lead early in the second half when a long-range Jack Julian shot deceived Ewan Breen in the Hanover goal. Credit to Hanover they kept in the game and Cody Molloy headed in the equaliser at the back post from a corner. The match remained evenly balanced entering the last ten minutes. A surging run from Aaron Cunningham Burke ended with his cross ending up in the net to put the home team ahead. With three minutes on the clock, a long-range free kick for St Anne’s saw Ennae Byrne guide a header into the net to level things up. There was not enough time left for Hanover to get the goal they needed and St Anne’s celebrated the final whistle and the league title.

Well done to St Anne’s who’s best on the day were Oisin Kelly, Niall Hickey and Seamus Lynch.

For Hanover who will look towards the cup competition, everyone from 1-15 gave everything.

Saturday 26 March 2022  The Meadows Graiguecullen (St Pats Boys)

St. Pats hosted Crettyard on a very hot day. Pats started strong with some very good play from Corie Purcell in the Pats midfield. Crettyard were defending very well in the first 15 mins until Shayne Atkinson opened the scoring with a very well-taken goal. Pats started passing the ball and fighting for every ball. David McDonald and Mikey Whelan on the left side linked up great the whole game and it wasn’t long before Pats were 2-0 up when Corie Purcell’s shot hit the back of the net. Crettyard started to attack after this and had some good chances to make it 2-1 but it ended 2-0 to Pats at half time.

In the second half Crettyard had the better of the first 10 mins but Pats then started to come back strong adding a 3rd when Callum O’Regan slotted home from the penalty spot. Pats added another 2 goals to make it 5-0 but at this stage Crettyard were down to 9 men due to Injury. Both teams played very well and are very evenly matched but today Pats deserved their win.

Best for Crettyard Elliot Rice, Jack Doyle & Blake Rice.

Best for St. Pats was Shayne Atkinson, Mikey Whelan & David McDonald

Saturday 26 March 2022  McArdle Cross Tinryland (St Josephs)

Great entertaining game between two great teams. Great soccer was played between the 2 teams. Joeys & New Oak. It was Joeys who opened the scoring within 6 minutes of kick off .

With a great pass from down th lobbied into Ross Moran, who knocked it into the corner of New Oak’s net. Joeys kept New Oak at bay for 12 mins until Kacper Zarzycki scored New Oaks first goal for them striking low and into the corner of the St Joseph’s net. It was just 4 minutes before half time, that New Oak struck again with another goal scored by Bobby Jordan, to leave them 1-2 ahead at half time.

Both teams came back out & played brilliant soccer for the whole second half. With some great play being played. Each team had chances to score, but unfortunately neither could get the ball into the net. End result was 1-2 to New Oak. Joeys never stopped even with injuries sustained throughout the game. Well done to both teams. Great performances in the heat.

All-round great performance by the all Joeys team,
Well done to Lee Smith & David Korposh

Saturday 26 March 2022  Crettyard Utd

Cretty and St Anne’s met today on a great morning for a match both teams started well but it was the middle of first half before any goal mouth action a great cross from Cretty’s Aaron Brennan which fell to Michael Brennan who shot narrowly wide. Michael Brennan picked up the loose ball played it to Aaron Brennan who finished to the net 1-0 half time.

Second half St Anne’s tried hard to get back into the game but the Cretty defence were strong today and didn’t allow many chances with Cian O Sullivan dominating midfield. He then dribbled past two players before being brought down in the box with Fionnan Brennan making no mistake from the spot for 2-0 and that’s the way the game finished out with little further chances coming to either team final score Cretty 2 St Anne’s 0

New Oak Boys AFC   1,  Bagenalstown AFC  1
Saturday 26 March 2022  Burrin Rd Carlow (New Oak Boys)

New Oak were held to a draw by a resolute Bagenalstown team on a fine Saturday morning up the Burrin Road. The home side flew out of the blocks and looked really lively starting the half, it wasn’t long before they grew in confidence and following super play in midfield, New Oak’s talismatic captain Darragh Casey played an absolutely beautiful through ball for Kyle Kinsella to run onto, the winger drove into the area and fired an unstoppable shot past the Bagenalstown keeper.

The home side were flying at this stage and should have doubled their lead but Kinsella fired just over the bar this time from out on the left. About midway through the half the away team weathered the storm and prevented New Oak from playing their game of football. Chances were few and far between for both sides with little being created. Just before half time the referee awarded the away side a penalty after a push on player out wide in the box.

Bagenelstown had the opportunity to level the game from the spot and it was duly taken with a well struck effort just about beating Cathal Kennedy in the New Oak goal who got his fingers to the strike.Shortly after the ref blew the whistle to end the half.

New Oak had some half chances in the second half but Bagenalstown battled hard to keep them at bay and defended very well, the away keeper making some fine saves to keep his side in the game. New Oak were unlucky overall but the away side just about deserved the point in the end.

Jamie Doody, Darragh Casey, Jack Travers and Leigh Slattery were stand out performers for New Oak.

Saturday 26 March 2022  Hawkins Lane Tullow (Parkville United)

The good weather made for perfect conditions and Parkville and St Pats served up a highly entertaining match.  Both sides started on the front foot but with both defences on top goal chances were few. Parkville then took control of midfield and started testing the Pats keeper and went in front after 15 minutes thanks to a good strike from in-form Adrian Plonka.  The home team kept up the pressure and Luke McGrath and Adam Monaghan both went close, but were denied by good goalkeeping from the away keeper. Halftime 1-0.

The second half began with Pat’s upping the pressure and were denied by some great goalkeeping by Luke Denton.  The home side were very short of players but a huge effort from each one of them kept the visitors at bay as Pat’s piled on the pressure in an effort to get an equalizer. However Parkville held on and some great saves by sub goalie Luke Monaghan gave the Tullow side a good win.

Best for St Pats were Thomas Lawlor, Leon Doyle, Ronan Frazer and Jonah Brennan.

All 12 players for Parkville were outstanding.

Saturday 26 March 2022  Burrin Rd Carlow (New Oak Boys)

On a glorious morning on the Burrin Road, New Oak comprehensively beat St Joseph’s in what was a dominant display throughout, putting them back on top of the table.

It only took 2 mins when Keelan Brennan received the ball with his back to goal, but turned sharp onto his right to blast the ball to the left hand corner to make it 1 nil. The game settled down soon afterwards with New Oak enjoying the majority of possession. It was soon 2 nil when New Oak captain Cormac Lowry came onto a loose ball and drilled the ball to the bottom right corner giving St Josephs keeper no chance. And on 24 mins, a delightful lay off by substitute Ruairi Delaney played in Keelan Brennan to make it 3 nil, with the aid of the post and that’s how it stayed until half time.

The 2nd half started with little goal mouth action for the early part until 13mins when Ruairi Delaney was played in, he controlled the ball with his right and fired a left footed shot to roof of the net to make it 4 nil. Oisin Rice nearly made it 5 but St Joseph’s keeper saved well. And on the stroke of full time, Jamie McCormack drove onto the ball in the box and was taken down for  a penalty to New Oak. Up stepped Keelan Brennan who made no mistake with a beautiful left footed shot to the left of goal, for his 3rd and New Oaks 5th . And that was that with final whistle sounding soon afterwards. St Patrick’s Boys AFC   7,  Burrin Celtic AFC  0
Saturday 26 March 2022  The Meadows Graiguecullen (St Pats Boys)

This was a game played under excellent conditions. The sun was shining and no wind. The game started well for St. Patrick’s Boys who attacked from the start and scored through Alfie White after 5 minutes from a great individual effort. Four minutes later Sean Murphy doubled St. Patrick’s Boys lead from a free kick just outside of the box  which he rose fast over the wall and through the goalkeepers hands.

Within a minute St. Patrick’s Boys scored a third through Gorka. Within seven minutes he scored his second and St. Patrick’s Boys fourth after he took a pass from Sean Murphy on his right foot, switched to his left and slotted the ball home in the bottom left corner. Four minutes later Eric Reyes scored from a well worked pass from Alfie. Just before the end of the half Josef (Pep) Parres scored from a pass from his Spanish colleagues Eric.

A few minutes into the second half a fast ball in to Eric who passed to Pep, who put the ball through the goal keepers hands into the top left corner. St. Patrick’s Boys  started well in the second half against a Burrin team who reassessed their game and came out fighting.

Not long after a fast break by Pep and a shot from Eric resulted in further goals. Charlie McNamara was barely on the field when he took a shot from the edge of the box and scored a fine world class individual goal with about 20 minutes to go.

Despite the best efforts of St. Patrick’s Boys they were unable to score any more. Burren fought to the end in what was a one sided but thrilling game.
