CASTLEREA SINK CONN RANGERS TO ADVANCE IN CONNACHT CUP

The fifth round of the T Brennan Sponsored Connacht Cup took centre stage  with Roscommon and District League sides St Peters, Castlerea Celtic and Ballinasloe Town in action in the last sixteen of the competition.

Castlerea Celtic beat the Mayo Premier Division side Conn Rangers 3 – 1 at Castlerea and advanced to the Quarter Finals of this competition in two weeks time. The visitors went in front just after half time. Darren Clabby levelled the game with sixty played and Gerry Ward and Jarlath Geraghty added two more after sixty four and sixty nine minutes of play. 

Ballinasloe Town travelled to the Mayo Superleague side Ballyglass and came away with a 3 – 0 win. Callum Mc Kelvey and Mark Duffy gave the winners a 2 – 0 half time lead and Brian Burke added a third for the winners after the break.

League Champions St Peters travelled to Abeyknockmoy but were surprisingly beaten 1 – 0 by the Galway Premier Division side St Bernards.

In the Connacht Shield Ballaghaderreen beat Mervue B 4 – 3 at Ballaghaderreen. Danny Browne gave the home side a 2 – 0 lead but the visitors levelled the game before half time.

Danny Browne completed his hat trick with fifty five played but the Galway side levelled the game once again. Reece Keenan scored the winner for Ballaghaderreen with seventy eight minutes played.

In the Premier Division of the Roscommon and District League Moore United eased their relegation worries with a 6 – 0 win over Ballymoe F C at Ballymoe. Josh Lennon, Mark Gannon and Andy Nevin scored two each for Moore United.

After fifty consecutive seasons in the Premier Division Skyvalley Rovers will play in Division 1 next season following a 5 – 2 defeat away to Boyle Celtic. Michael Corrigan gave the home side an early lead  before Adrian Mannion and Jamie Kelly had the visitors 2 -1 ahead. Michael Corrigan and  Shane Battles added two more each for Boyle Celtic before the end of the game.

The Norio’s sponsored Division 1 Championship is still very tight with Dysart, Cloonfad United and Ballaghaderreen battling for the top spot. With Ballaghaderreen playing in the Connacht Shield both Dysart and Cloonfad United picked up maximum points from their games against C P Ajax and Rahara Rovers.

Cloonfad United were made to fight all the way before overcoming a good Rahara Rovers side. Ger Fagan scored for Cloonfad United in the first and last minute of this game.

Roscommon United had a 6 -1 win over Castlerea Celtic at Roscommon. The visitors took and early lead through Kevin Knight  but the ever reliable Jamie Bracken had the sides level with twenty four minutes played. Jamie Bracken scored his second before Vando added two more fot the winners. Bracken brough his total to eight for the week when  he score his third near the end.

In the Norios Division 1 Cup played earlier in the week Castlerea Celtic advanced to the next round when they beat Cam Celtic 1- 0 at Castlerea. Patrick Egan scored the decider with ten minutes played.

Cloonfad United beat the Castleplunket side C P Ajax 5 – 1 at Tarmon.Dean Lyons and Ger Fagan scored two each and Shaun Kearney added one for the winners.

Roscommon United beat Dunmore Town 6 – 2 at Roscommon. Jamie Bracken scored five and Thomas Hanley one for the winners with Declan Forde and Fichra Manhire replying for Dunmore Town.

In the Hanly Quarries sponsored Division 2 Manor United drew 0 – 0 with already crowned champions Glen Celtic. Manor United remain in the runners up spot.

The Castleblaikney side  St Cuans beat Roscommon United 4 – 3 in a thriller at Roscommon. David Hanrahan scored two and  Liam O  Connor one for the winners with the decider coming by way of an own goal. Mike Lannon scored two and  Aaron Burgoyne  one for the losers.

Skyvalley Rovers drew 1 – 1 with Moore United at Onagh Park Taughmaconnell.Nigel Cobbins scored for the home side with twelve played and Davy Griffin equalised in injury time at the end of the game.
