Cartron United go in the Christmas break as the league leaders in The Sligo Southern Hotel Super League. In their final encounter before the festive season break, they played Real Tubber at Ray Mac Sharry Park. Raff Cretaro scoring twice for Real Tubber once from the penalty spot and the other from play. Cartron had the greater fire power with Donal Gallagher and Malachy Spratt both scoring two goals each while Dan Beya left Carton with ten men when he got his marching orders from man in the middle Paul Kilcoyne.
Carbury with two games in hand behind the league leaders were held to a scoreless draw at Sean Fallon Park Cranmore by a feisty MCR and going into the break are four points behind the league leaders Cartron United.
Strand Celtic continue their recent devastating form this time hitting visitors to Strandhill on Friday night Arrow Harps for seven without reply. Aaron O Boyle netting a hat trick, Daniel Gray Harrigan notching a double strike, while Luke Mavrack and Dylan Martin each adding a goal that secured third place on the leader board.
Leitrim Kingpins had a welcome return to form hitting Ballisodare United for five at Dromahair Astro. Brian Mc Donald on target here with a fine hat trick and a goal each from Philip Patten and Gabriel Kilbride securing all three points for the Manorhamilton boys. Gary Anderson scored the only goal for a tame Ballisodare United.
Ballymote Celtic made the journey to Cliffoney Celtic grounds at Mullaghmore a profitable one winning by the odd goal in three. Jack Hever on thirteen minutes opening the account for Ballymote seventeen minutes later it was two nil when Conor Meehan rifled home and Ballymote continued to dominate. Sixteen minutes from time and Darragh Hoey pulled a goal back for Cliffoney but it was not to be and both sides finished with ten men, Jack Hever Ballymote Celtic and Kevin Gavigan both dismissed as was Stephen Cannon from the Ballymote Club management side by referee Philip Mc Loughlin.
Merville United recorded their first win in thirteen outings when they defeated visitors Aughanagh Celtic by the odd goal in seven. Darren Kelly opened the account for Merville with a goal each from Ryan Hargadon, Thomas Myres and the winner from Adam Lynch. Aughanagh replied through Daniel Willis, Ciaran Kilfeather, and Dylan Mc Dermott but the dismissal of Shane Barry seventeen minutes from time by referee Glenn Gilmartin did little to help their chances despite a battling performance.
Calry Bohs with a win away to Ballygawley Celtic would see them clear leaders In the Andrew Mullen Sligo Pallets Premier League. Calry knew what was required of them but could they deliver. The answer an emphatic no as Ballygawley Celtic with goals from Conor Healy, Christy Markham and Derek Lynch plus an own goal ran out clear winners. Benedict Nwani scored the only goal for Calry Bohs who enter the break in second spot two points behind leaders St Johns who have one game extra played.
St Johns FC keep the pressure on and take over the leader board winning a hard-fought encounter at Ray Mac Sharry Park against Grange side Benbulben FC. Michael Gilmartin scored both goals for Benbulben with Conor Brennan hitting a glorious hat trick for St Johns and the fourth goal from the lethal boot Darragh Mc Goldrick keep St Johns on course.
One of the most dangerous sides on their day are Coolaney United this time they travelled to Dromahair beating the hosts by seven goals to two. Their arsenal seen Cathal Davey hitting five goals bringing his tally to eighteen goals in just ten games, and believe it or not nine of these in the last two games. Steve Patten and Conor Mc Cormack adding the other two goals from a rampant Coolaney United. Shane Fowley and Alan Kavanagh each scored once for Dromahair while referee Terry Butler game Jamie Cawley of Dromahair his marching orders ten minutes from time.
Glenview Stars were lucky to take a point at Forthill where visitors Carrick Town dominated. Liam Mc Tiernan fired the Town into the lead on twenty minutes and Stars eventually equalised on seventy minutes. However, the real drama was the Town had two penalty kicks both superbly saved by the Stars net minder Gareth Quinn what a performance that insured a most valuable point for the Stars.
Ciaran Jennings scored both goals for Valley Rovers in their draw at Home to Kilglass Enniscrone United whose scorers were Joseph Dunphy and Joseph Martin.
Gurteen Celtic and Chaffpool United both scored twice to share the points apologies for no scorers but no result from this game as was the case with a few others this weekend.
