CARTRON EDGE OUT ARROW TO STAY AT SUMMIT OF SLIGO SUPER LEAGUE

Cartron United continue to dominate at the top of the Sligo Southern Hotel Super League. They entertained Rivertown side Arrow Harps at the Ray Mac Sharry Complex on Saturday night.

Cartron United took a deserved lead on twenty minutes following a prolonged period of pressure, Rian Gorman finally put the hosts one up with a great finish from sixteen yards. The score remained one nil at half time.

Donal Gallagher doubled the lead on fifty-seven minutes with a header following a great cross from the left from Jake Hargadon. Just a minute later, Gallagher doubled his tally with a superb individual goal beating four players and finishing superbly to the corner of the net from ten yards.

By NOEL KENNEDY

The three points looked to be in the bag at this stage but the Riverstown men never gave up and a great chipped finish from Dylan McCallion on eighty-four minutes brought them back into the game.

Just two minutes later and the comeback was definitely on when Shane Deignan finished brilliantly to the corner. The Riverstown men threw absolutely everything forward in the last few minutes and had one great chance to equalise but in the end the Cartron defence held strong to seal a priceless three points.

Current Champions Carbury FC keep up the pressure with a clinical five goals to one victory at Sean Fallon Park Cranmore against MCR. Jason Lyons snatching a hat trick, Aaron Murrin from the penalty spot and the fifth goal from Adam Lynch taking all three points for Carbury. Tomas Myres netted the only goal for Merville United.

MCR continue their great form taking all three points at Sean Fallon Park against Ballisodare United. Jordan Harte on the mark after eight minutes and then twelve minutes from full time Liam Lee hit the killer strike that wrapped up all three points for MCR.

Strand Celtic lost ground when they were held to a draw at Mullaghmore against a very strong Cliffoney Celtic. Alan Harrison driving Cliffoney ahead on six minutes and Darragh Hoey doubling their lead on twenty-five minutes. Strand Celtic responded five minutes before the break when Niall Murphy netted.

The second half seen both sides continue to attack and once again it was young Luke Mavrak who rescued a point for Strand hitting the equaliser on sixty minutes. Both these sides have an abundance of talent and have the ability to lift silverware this season.

Manor Rangers moved their fixture to Dromahair Astro where they hosted Ballymote Celtic. A Paul Clancy strike after twenty-five minutes gave Manor Rangers the lead at the interval. Ballymote were right back in the frame five minutes into the second half when Niall Colsh netted the equaliser. Ballymote now had their tales up and nine minutes from time Daniel Clark fired them into the lead and what looked a certain three points. But three minutes later Manor were awarded a penalty and up stepped Brian Mc Donald who blazed his spot kick high and over the bar. Again it appeared all over but just on fulltime Gabriel Gilbride saved the day and a point for the Leitrim Boys hitting a glorious equaliser.

In the Andrew Mullen Sligo Pallets Premier League, it was the clash of the Big Guns St Johns at home in the Ray Mac Sharry Complex to league leaders Calry Bohs. A single point separating both sides prior to this massive encounter. Both sides very evenly matched St Johns marginally better on fire power while Calry Bohs tighter in defence but stats can at times go out the window in the heat of battle.

Calry took a first half lead thanks to Cian Oates and they controlled matters throughout the game with their defence in superb form. Midfield engine well-tuned and when Aaron Flynn added the coup de grace it was game, set and match to league front runners Calry Bohs who now lead the pack by four points. Technically both Glenview Stars and Coolaney united have the greater chance of catching the league leaders but Stars may yet well rue, having to journey to Chaffpool after losing home advantage today.

Kilglass Enniscrone United moved their fixture to Ray Mac Sharry Park against north Sligo side Benbulben FC. Kilglass Enniscrone United dominated this game with Joseph Martin opening their account on five minutes, Peter Buckley twenty minutes later making it two nil. Benbulben responded briefly on the half hour when Anthony Moylette netted. But Kilglass Enniscrone United restored order seven minutes later when Joseph Martin netted his second and the third goal for Kilglass Enniscrone United.

The second half with a goal each from Ronan Martin, Michael Henry and Michael Sheridan securing all three points for a rampant Kilglass Enniscrone United.

Ballygawley Celtic welcome Carrick Town to their venue which seen the home side hit seven goals. A hat trick for Conor Healy with a goal each from Callum Tonry, Kyle Carty, John Markham and James Mackey taking the points for Ballygawley Celtic. The town with goals from Liam Mc Tiernan, David Regan and Ryan Duarte were just out gunned on the day.

The Glenview Stars v Chaffpool United game was postponed this game now reverts to Chaffpool.
