|The Football Association of Ireland welcomes today’s Budget announcement by Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Michael McGrath of an increase in Government funding to Sport Ireland to the tune of €36million.|
The FAI notes the Minister’s comments that €7million of this increased investment in Irish sport will be targeted at large-scale sports infrastructure and €2million for major sporting events.
At a time when all Irish sport is coming to terms with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government’s commitment to Sport Ireland is appreciated.
Interim FAI CEO Gary Owens said: “We appreciate the announcement by Minister McGrath today and welcome this additional funding to Sport Ireland. Irish sport needs this support from Government now more than ever and this is a major boost for everyone in a sector which offers so much to Irish life.”
