The race for the Premier League title in Limerick will go right down to the wire after the top two – Janesboro and Pike Rovers – won this weekend.
Defending champions Janesboro, who are aiming from three-in-a-row, beat Prospect 3-1 on Saturday courtesy of strikes from two-goal Shane Clarke and Eddie Brazier.
Pike Rovers followed that up with a 2-0 win over Ballynanty Rovers this morning. Evan Patterson and Jonathan Grant netted for the Hoops.
The win moves Pike, who have two games remaining, to within four points of the Boro, who have one game left.
But the bottom line in the race for the top spot is if the Boro beat Ballynanty Rovers in their last game the title will remain in Pearse Stadium for a third successive season.
Meanwhile, Charleville beat relegated Carew Park 5-2 today with Shane Dillon notching a brace. Regional United and Nenagh played out a scoreless draw.
Elsewhere on Shannonside this weekend, Newport Town FC claimed the Division 1B Calvert Cup on Saturday night after beating Hill Celtic 2-0 at Jackman Park.
Christy Doyle fired home a brilliant free kick to open the scoring and the same player sealed the win in injury time for the Division 1B table toppers.
