Bergin the hero for Mid-Sutton Sportlink in LFA Junior Shield final

Mid Sutton Sportslink ………1  Straffan FC…….. 0.

An eighty fifth minute superbly struck header from Mid Sutton substitute Richard Bergin proved the difference between two evenly matched teams Mid Sutton Sportslink, and Staffan FC in a very entertaining Leinster Junior Shield Final played at the MDL grounds in Navan.

Straffan had the better of exchanges in the early part of the match with industrious winger John Tracey causing the Mid Sutton rearguard all sorts of problems in the first fifteen minutes, and on two occasions keeper Dan Davis saved from point blank goal bound efforts.

As the game wore on the LSL side gradually got to grips at mid field and began to create some chance of their own, but they also found stern resistance from a well organised Straffan rearguard.

Despite some neat passages of play from both sides the tie looked destined for extra until a cross in to the box in the eighty fifth minute by Eoin Bennis found Bergin at the far post who made no mistake with an accurate header past Srtaffan keeper Matthew Duggan.

Mid Sutton held out until the final whistle to claim the first provincial title of the season.
