Athletic Union League on the starting blocks as a new season of promise about to kickoff

SO mid-September has arrived and the Athletic Union League season is ready to begin.

It seems a long time since football was suspended back in March.  Hopefully we can look forward to a complete uninterrupted season from now to May 2021.

Achieving this will, in the main, be down to you the players, coaches and club management.

The FAI Safer Return to Play Protocol sets out what we need to do from here on.  The main points are listed below.

A home team’s COVID-19 Compliance Officer must attend every home fixture, check that

the FAI Safer Return to Play Protocol is observed and maintain a full record of attendance for

contact tracing purposes.

No, team photographs are strictly prohibited. HSE guidelines and the FAI’s Safer Return to

Play Protocol state that 2 metres social distancing is strictly adhered to wherever possible.

·         Teams should arrive as close as possible to kick off

·         Travel in your gear and bring your own water- no sharing of water bottles

·         No hand greetings (handshakes, fist pumps, high fives)

·         No team photos

·         Coaches/physio attending players must wear mask and gloves.

·         Team staff & substitutes should observe 2meter social distance

·         All equipment must be sanitised before and after the game

It is the responsibility of the club’s COVID-19 officer to ensure that all criteria around fixtures in the FAI’s Safer Return to Play Protocol are met.

Following the guideline over the past 6 month has gotten us to the start of the season.  Continuing to follow them both on and off the pitch will get us to the end of it.

Best of luck to all our teams and players from the Executive Committee.
