Ashbourne and Bohs serve up a treat as Archerstown witnesses six-goal feast!

NDSL Under-8A

Ashbourne United 3-3 Bohemians FC

– By Ger Brady

The ever developing Archerstown – home of Ashbourne United – was the venue on Saturday morning as one of the most progressing community clubs in the country welcomed one of the most famous names in Irish football.

The famous black and red stripes of Bohemians were the visitors to County Meath with both clubs’ NDSL Under-8A’s taking centre stage in the morning twin-game set-up.

And the 5-a-side games normally are a hive of activity and action and Saturday gone was no different with both games providing plenty of entertainment. On the first pitch it eventually finished in a thrilling 3-3 draw, not that anyone really cared about the score-line.Bohs attacked first and almost got an early goal but Finn Brown’s effort was tipped over by Aaron Nulty in the United goal.

Across the way on pitch 2, it was the home side who grabbed the first goal of the day as Ashton Dillon slotted home after a fine individual run forward.United were dominate over on pitch two with the hosts threatening with every attack although it was on that pitch that Bohs found the net for the first time also as Andrea de Wavrechin fired home.

Back on pitch one, both side’s continued to press for the opening goal.Hayden Foran’s effort was saved as the hosts attacked one end while the skillful Bohs youngster Finn Brown shot just wide after pouncing on a defensive error

A goal was coming one end or the other however and it was Ashbourne who got it when Hayden Foran passed forward to Jamie Higgins who hammered home.

And United soon found themselves two ahead when this time Hayden Foran scored himself after some good play by Evan Hennessy. But Bohs were to bounce back and Finn Brown blasted his way through the Ashbourne back-line from deep inside his own left-back position to eventually score in the right wing position

.And suddenly it was 2-2 when Tadgh Costello’s curling effort from distance with the outside of his right foot found the bottom corner.

Back over on pitch two the hosts were simply too strong for Bohs and it’s in these situations that not restarting the game from the centre circle might need to be reviewed as the visitors simply couldn’t clear the ball out of the danger area from their kick-outs.

On pitch one, the game was anything but one-sided and Bohs took the lead when Hudson Geoghegan scored direct from a corner but late on and deservedly so Ashbourne made it 3-3 when Aaron Nulty’s effort squeezed into the far corner to round of a wonderfully entertaining Saturday morning of football.
